After a recent downfall, it can be hard to focus on anything other than your negative emotions. However, having something to look forward to is the perfect way to pull yourself out of a funk. For me, that was the upcoming trip I had to California.
Seeing my best friend from home was exactly what I needed. We spent our first day going to the beach for some much-needed UV. This day was so magical and I felt as though a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. There is nothing more reviving than sunshine and laughter! After the beach, I watched her big-little reveal for her sorority and met some of her friends. It was cool to see the new connections she had made and caused me to reminisce on how amazing the family I made at college was. I had been narrow-minded allowing one person to consume my sadness, when I should be grateful for all the people that bring me so much happiness. While it is important to find happiness in yourself, it is also essential to let others impact you a healthy amount.
The next day we headed to Los Angeles. We had a bit of a bumpy start as driving through traffic was very scary, but after time I got more comfortable and was driving like a pro! We visited a shopping center called The Grove which was so beautiful. Next to The Grove, there was a grocery store that Bella insisted we try called Erewhon. Although pricey, the food was amazing! It helped me feel inspired to start incorporating more healthy recipes into my diet.
The next morning we visited our friend at the beach house she had rented. We spent the entire day on the beach and I finally got a bit of color without burning! It was great for everyone to catch up and after the UV got low we went home to get ready for dinner. I swear there is no better feeling than showering and getting dressed up after a day at the beach! The dinner we had that night was so amazing. I got make-your-own fish tacos, and ended the night with ice cream from Cold Stone.
On the last day of my trip, I visited LA again to see some of the famous attractions. This included the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Hollywood sign, and Rodeo Drive. We even included In-N-Out in the places we needed to visit! My favorite thing to visit was the handprints on the Hollywood Walk of Fame because I had always wanted to see the Harry Potter one! We finished the day by watching the sunset, and then I headed to the airport.
Although it's not always realistic to be able to take a trip whenever things get hard, creating something to look forward to is a great way to overcome pain. I always find that it feels easier to lay in bed, but I am so grateful after I get out and spend time with friends. Creating a distraction is important to not get consumed by negative emotions, and continuing to do even one thing like working out or going for a walk every day is essential.
